Learning Challenge: The Pomodoro Technique

The Pomodoro technique is a strategy to pace workloads by using a timer. It is named from the tomato-shaped timer. It is so cute! I tried this strategy, and I failed several times. I understand that I am a lenient person, so when the timer went off, I would set the timer again. But after a couple tries, I got the hang of it. It required a lot of discipline on my part. It helped me transition from one task to the next. Before, I would spend hours on one subject, neglecting the other, and messing up my schedule. The Pomodoro technique helped me remain on track of time. I have to set a timer while watching Netflix to make sure that I do not waste too much time. This was an effective technique and I recommend it to anyone who needs help keeping track of time!

Learning Challenge: Schedule

Time is something that does not wait for anyone. I feel like the white rabbit in Alice in Wonderland who was running late. The schedule that I planned out for the class was ideally fantastic, however, there are many days where I do not follow the schedule. Fortunately, I have been able to finish the assignments on time. I find myself doing the assignments in my spare time or before bed. The tasks are quite enjoyable, therefore it is not tenuous work to end a full day. The changes that I would want to make next week is to follow my schedule better, or be more productive during the times that I am doing the course.

Growth Mindset: Passing it on

I shared the Growth Mindset with one of my oldest friends, whom I have known since elementary school. We have seen each other grow from adolescents to adults. My friend had never heard of the growth mindset idea yet. He was quite intrigued in the concept. The key ideas, that I believe, of growth mindset is 1) failing is good, 2) learn from successes and failures, and 3) keep going. I tried to reiterate that not everyone is perfect. It is common to fail, but from that failure, you can learn and implement changes to better oneself. My friend has failed one of his classes twice. From that, I asked him, what did you do before? What can you change to do better? We were able to tweak his study habits and hopefully he will pass with flying colors. The growth mindset is the idea that, what we have, we can use and expand.

Week 4 Story: Ravana Raves for Sita

Ravana Raves for Sita

I, Ravana, succeeded in obtaining Sita. It was more like saving Sita from Rama.  I was fortunate enough to have Maricha’s cooperation throughout the plan. Although, I did not plan for the her death. More importantly, I have found a queen to worship for the rest of my life.

Sita seemed upset when I kidnapped her, but I thought it was an act to seem genuine in the eyes of her husband, Rama. Although I have plenty of wives, no one would be a prize like Sita. I knew that in the arms of Rama, she was not appreciated like she should have been. I could see Rama overshadowing Sita. She deserves to shine in her own spotlight. In order to ensure that she did not run away, I tied her up to a tree in the Ashoka grove with guards. The guards were to protect her if any harm comes her way.

I walked towards Sita in my best clothes to ask her for her hand in marriage. I knew it was not the traditional route that I would have liked but I was on a time crunch. I could see that she had been crying when I approached her. My heart ached from every tear that fell. I tried to comfort her by offering her wealth and power but she refused. All she wanted was Rama. I could see that he brainwashed her. I decided to give her two months, to give her space. For that would be an ample amount of time to realize that I was the better choice. She cursed at me, so naturally, I retorted back. I will admit that my angry got the best of me.

As I was leaving the grove, I heard rustling within the trees. I assumed it was merely a critter bustling about.

Author's Note: During this story, Hanuman - Rama's friend who was sent to find Sita - discovers where Sita is. At the moment, Ravana approaches Sita to be his wife instead of Rama's wife. In exchange for the marriage, Ravana promised Sita wealth and freedom. However, Sita's heart belongs to Rama. Sita rejects Ravana's offer and Ravana left Sita to the guards. Sita has 2 months to agree to the terms or she dies from a tortured death.

Reading Notes: Ramayana PDE Part D

Sita Tested

Main Characters:
Rama
Sita
Brahma

Plot:
There was question about Sita's loyalty to Rama after Rama defeated Ravana. In order to prove her pure heart, she told Lakshmana to create a funeral pyre for her to walk in. If her heart belonged to Rama, she would remain untouched by the fire. When she walked into the fire pit, Brahma came down and told Rama that Rama was a reincarnation of Vishnu and Sita was a reincarnation of Lakshmi. Rama told Brahma that the reason for the doubt was for the people to believe that nothing went amidst when Sita was with Ravana. After Rama knew for certain that Sita was only in love with him, he was satisfied.

Setting:
Ashoka Grove

Story Idea:
For this story, I would like to explore Rama's opinion of the situation more. As a leader, he and Sita has to go through obstacles to prove to their people that they are worthy of the crown. Even though Rama believes that Sita was faithful, Rama knew that the people would need proof in order to accept Sita as their queen. I could only imagine how nervous Rama was when Sita walked into the pyre. The possibility of his love not coming out of the fire must have scared him.

Sita and Ravana

Main Characters:
Hanuman
Sita
Ravana

Plot:
During this story, Hanuman - Rama's friend who was sent to find Sita - discovers where Sita is.

Setting:
In the Ashoka Grove

Story Idea:
I would like to tell the story in Ravana's point of view. It would be interesting to go through his thoughts on why Sita would be a suitable wife for him even though he has wives waiting for him. I believe that the point of view of the "villain" can be eye opening. The villain can often be skewed when the story is told in the point of view of the hero, in this case Rama.
