Time Strategies... Implemented over Time...

To be honest, I can always use more advice on time management. I have reviewed my study schedule for this class and I think it remains a good schedule. However, if I am feeling bored on the other days, I could always get ahead on assignments. As for the rest of my classes this semester, there is going to be a steep learning curve on how much time to allocate to each class. I chose these articles because it when I read the titles, it resonated with me. These are the problem areas that I recognize I have. 

How to Beat Procrastination - This was a very helpful article on procrastination. It approaches procrastination like typical problems. The first step is to identify. The second step is to start and provide a small reward. The final steps are to finish. This article was very useful in putting everything in perspective. 

The Important Habit of Just Starting - I used to have this habit during high school, then it disappeared when I discovered naps. Based on my past experiences in my classes, this will be one of the most important habits to gain again. It is easy to determine a future failure without starting a project. I have prepped myself too much for failure, that perhaps I am afraid to succeed. This semester, I am going to start and finish. 

On the Field Guide of Procrastinators, I am probably either the napper, sidetracked, or snacker... 

I think my biggest challenge this semester is to implement the strategies and habits, but I am prepared for the challenge!

Technology

I would not say that I am tech savvy, however I have heard of the tools such as Google Docs, Canvas, and the other sites. There is so much technology out there that allows people to connect with each other. The tools and sites are endless. I think they are also very useful. I am excited to be able to practice and use more of the technology tools that are available.

First Impression: Assignments

My first impression for most of my classes is the workload is overwhelming. However, in this course, I feel more at ease. I am intrigued by the extra credit options because there are so many choices to choose from. I think it is a good way for me to explore and dive into subjects more thoughtfully. One extra credit opportunity that caught my attention was the Growth Mindset. I would like to learn more about the ideal. Unlike other classes, all the work is available to do at any time. Theoretically, I could finish the class early. I like the idea of finishing the class early. From the get-go, I was intrigued by this class and the format. I still remain eager.

Attempting Growth Mindset

Prior to this, I have not heard of Carol Dweck or the idea of Growth Mindset. From exploring this topic, I have realized that I am between the Now and the Yet. I possibly lean more towards the Now but I am trying to make my way to Yet. Recently, I learned how to snowboard. The mindset that I had to develop was to challenge myself in aspects that were not normally exercised. I had the mentality of, "I have not yet learned this activity, but I will." The challenges I have at OU is that I know that I can do better within my classes. I have difficulty in placing more effort within my studies. Every semester, I have a school years resolution to improve my ways of studying and deepen my well of knowledge.

I would personally like to learn more about the Growth Mindset and hopefully implement it within my daily life. My learning goals for this semester is to not allow my difficult classes intimidate me, but to allow it to motivate me. Another goals is to not underestimate the classes that seem easy and treat it under the same caliber as my other subjects. Growth Mindset is a journey I intend to embark on.

Introduction to an Idealist

A proper introduction,

Hello! My name is Chelsea Ton, if you did not know that. My major is Biochemistry Pre-Pharmacy. The coolest thing about my major is that it is a combination of two of my favorite subjects, biology and chemistry! The best class that I took last semester was Microbiology Lab. It was a very hands-on class. I have always been interested in the detective lifestyle. Therefore, the task of identifying my environmental isolate from that random spot on the staircase was fun. I also liked that I got to know my microorganism through each test we conducted. It was like getting to know a person more in-depth, as with each test, it shared a secret with me.

Aside from school, I love to spend time with my family, dog, and watch movies. My dog's name is Rudy, short for Rudolph, considering I am a Christmas baby. Although, he does not like to cuddle, I am determined to turn him into a cuddle buddy. He may have a sweet face, but do not let that fool you. He is a troublemaker.

During this winter break, I spent time with my extended family in California. The most recent movie I watched was The Greatest Showman. I love Hugh Jackman, Zendaya, and Zac Efron. I love musicals. Throughout the movie, I could not tell if I was getting goosebumps from the movie or the cold theater. It is definitely a movie that I would recommend to everyone!

Short to long goals and everything in-between

I am a very idealistic person. I can dream of goals to no end. Some obvious goals: graduate school, get a job, get married, have kids, buy a white picket fence house, the whole works. I have wanted to become a pharmacist since elementary school. At a young age, the goal seemed unobtainable. Now, it seems so close within reach. But one of my most important goals is to be happy. I want to reach a point where I am satisfied with my life I could die in that instance. 

3 Storybook Favorites

Indian Epics: Indra

From my World Religions class, I heard of the name Indra. I knew that he was considered the Supreme Being in Hinduism. The title of this piece was concise and informative. I thought the Introduction of the blog was well written. I especially liked how the introduction was written in first person. It added a personal element to the introduction. I liked the layout of the site and the use of pictures. The pictures put words to life. It aids in the interpretation of the story. My most favorite part of the Storybook is the perspective that it was written in.

Gossip Girl Ayodhya

This was one of my Storybook favorites because Gossip Girl is one of my all time favorite shows. The title of this piece was very eye catching and intriguing. The title was also informational that it consisted of the Ayodhya. However, I have not heard of what or who the Ayodhya was. The introduction did an excellent job in explaining who the Ayodhya were with a modern twist. The layout of the storybook was organized and minimalistic which I appreciate. I like the way the images were used like cover photos to add a visual effect but not overpower the simplistic style. The navigation of the Storybook was also very easy. My favorite aspect of the Storybook would be the clean, sleek style of the Storybook.

Dharma Queen

I am a sucker for puns. When I saw "Dharma Queen" I knew I had to check it out. I like that the introduction is relatable and modern. I also heard the word "Dharma" in my World Religions class. so the idea of it was not new. However, I was not very well informed of the topic. I like how the first person perspective makes it feel like a diary or journal entry. The navigation of the Storybook was fairly easy. I also like the addition of a video integrated within the Storybook. It was a nice surprise that differentiated it from the other Storybooks. It was interesting that most of the pictures did not seem to relate to the Indian culture, but the pictures were more relative and understandable. I liked the airy and free feel of the style. I think that the title was my favorite element of this Storybook.

Favorite Places - California, Germany, and Dallas

My favorite places are California, Germany, and Dallas.. All in that order.

California - I have visited California the most. My family resides in Orange County, so my parents and I visited about every year. Sometimes, I even stayed for the whole summer! California is one of my favorite places, not because of the location, but because of what it contains. I associate California with lots of love, good food, and (my favorite) boba.

My most recent adventure was a snowboarding trip to Mammoth Mountain. The homey town reminded me of Oklahoma. Although I was achy from the strenuous activity, it was fulfilling.

Germany - This was my first trip abroad with my friends. It was a senior trip to Oberammergau in the summer of 2016. It was a fairytale. We visited castles and went on hikes. The country contained the most beautiful landscapes. The food was absolutely delicious! All the ingredients tasted fresh and well prepared. I probably spent way too much money on beer steins but I don't regret a single moment.

Dallas, Texas - Finally, my last favorite place. I have gone to Dallas several times with my friends and parents. While in Dallas, we normally visit the mall, eat, and site see. We go to Dallas because it is seems like a more spontaneous location because it is out of state. Plus, it is not considered a far drive. I have many fond memories in Dallas.
